Dr. David Cantaffa is Associate Provost for Academic Programs, Planning, and Assessment within System Administration of the State University of New York. In this role, he leads the office charged to support all 64 SUNY campuses in their development of academic programs, including through the program registration process via the New York State Education Department. In addition to academic program development, Dr. Cantaffa is a key participant in policy development and implementation for a range of academic matters. And, on behalf of SUNY, Dr. Cantaffa regularly represents System Administration within the state and nationally. Prior to his position at SUNY, Dr. Cantaffa served as Assistant Dean for Teacher Education and Director of the Teacher Education Institute for the Graduate School of Education within the University at Buffalo. And prior to the University at Buffalo, Dr. Cantaffa began his career in education as a high school biology teacher at The Nichols School.


Russ Poulin leads the WICHE Cooperative for Educational Technologies (WCET), which advocates for effective practices and policies for digital learning in higher education. WCET’s members represent institutions, state agencies, corporations, and non-profit organizations from all fifty states. As the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE) Vice President, he advises on policy positions and educational technology projects for the regional higher education compact. In paying attention to federal, state, and institution policies, he twice represented the distance education and competency-based education communities in federal negotiated rule-making processes. The Presidents’ Forum, Excelsior College, the National University Technology Network, and the Online Learning Consortium have all recognized him for contributions to technology-enhanced post-secondary education. Before WCET, Russ directed distance education efforts for the North Dakota University System. He is also partial to movies, cats, and his wife, Laurie. Frank Vander Valk is Dean of the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences, and Dean of Digital Learning, Innovation, and Strategy at SUNY Empire State College. He has 15 years of experience in online learning as a faculty member and administrator. His research interests include digital pedagogy, philosophy of digital media, and the intersection of politics and digital identities.
