Kim Scalzo is the Executive Director of Open SUNY and Interim Executive Director of Academic Technologies and Information Services (ATIS). For the five years preceding the launch of Open SUNY, Scalzo served as Director for SUNY Center for Professional Development. Prior to joining SUNY, Scalzo was an administrator at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute where she started as the Director of Professional and Distance Education Program, and moved on to serve as the Director of Distributed Education and Multimedia before a four year term as the Director of Outreach Programs.

Dr. Charles “Chuck” Dziuban is the Director of the Research Initiative for Teaching Effectiveness at the University of Central Florida (UCF) where has been a faculty member since 1970 teaching research design and statistics and is the founding director of the university’s Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin.  Since 1996, he has directed the impact evaluation of UCF’s distributed learning initiative examining student and faculty outcomes as well as gauging the impact of online, blended and lecture capture courses on the university.  Chuck has published in numerous journals including Multivariate Behavioral Research, The Psychological Bulletin, Educational and Psychological Measurement, the American Education Research Journal, the Phi Delta Kappan, the Internet in Higher Education, the Journal of Asynchronous Learning Networks, and the Sloan-C View. His methods for determining psychometric adequacy have been featured in both the SPSS and the SAS packages. He has received funding from several government and industrial agencies including the Ford Foundation, Centers for Disease Control, National Science Foundation and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. In 2000, Chuck was named UCF’s first ever Pegasus Professor for extraordinary research, teaching, and service and in 2005 received the honor of Professor Emeritus. In 2005, he received the Sloan Consortium award for Most Outstanding Achievement in Online Learning by an Individual. In 2007 he was appointed to the National Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Literacy Policy Council. In 2010, Chuck was named an inaugural Sloan-C Fellow. In 2012 the University of Central Florida initiated the Chuck D. Dziuban Award for Excellence in Online Teaching for UCF faculty members in honor of Chuck’s impact on the field of online teaching and learning. In 2017 Chuck received UCF’s inaugural Collective Excellence award for his work strengthening the university’s impact with the Tangelo Park Program and assumed the position of University Representative to the Rosen Foundation Tangelo Park and Parramore programs. Chuck has co-authored, co-edited, or contributed to numerous books and chapters on blended and online learning including Handbook of Blended Learning Environments, Educating the Net Generation, and Blended Learning: Research Perspectives and Blended Learning: Research Perspectives, Vol 2. His book Conducting Research in Online and Blended Learning: New Pedagogical Frontiers written with Picciano, Graham, and Moskal was released in fall 2015. He is a coauthor of the final book in the trilogy Blended Learning: Research Perspectives that will released in the spring of 2021. He has given over 100 presentations on how modern technologies impact learning at universities throughout the U.S and in numerous countries.

Dr. Marni Baker Stein, as Provost and Chief Academic Officer at Western Governors University, leads academic programs and drives the University-wide focus on student success. Under her guidance, WGU develops, implements, and scales programs that improve access and affordability for students, without compromising academic quality. Baker Stein has over 25 years of experience designing and scaling programs to improve access, affordability, and student success. Prior to joining WGU, she worked for educational institutions in the U.S. and abroad on the development and administration of pioneering high school, undergraduate, graduate, continuing, and professional programming models delivered through competency-based, online, and hybrid formats. These institutions include The University of Texas System, Columbia University in the City of New York, The University of Pennsylvania, The University of California Santa Barbara, Pennsylvania State University, SUNY Buffalo (Latvia), and the United States Information Agency (Turkey, Japan). In August 2016, Marni was selected by the Department of Education to serve as a member of the National Technical Working Group charged with expanding the 2016 National Educational Technology Plan and using technology to transform higher education. Marni has a Ph.D. in Teaching, Learning, and Curriculum from the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Patrice Torcivia Prusko is the Assistant Director, Learning Design, in the Harvard Graduate School of Education, Teaching and Learning Lab. Previously she worked as an Instructional Designer at Cornell University in the Center for Teaching Innovation, and as a faculty member at State University of New York, Empire State College, Center for International Programs: Panama, Dominican Republic, Prague and Lebanon.  She holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering (B.S.), and Business Management (MBA) from Union College, and Curriculum and Instruction (Ph.D.) from University at Albany. Her research focuses on developing course and systems level structures that support inclusive, transformational learning experiences for all students, especially first generation and underrepresented student populations in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.  She is passionate about increasing global access to STEM education for all women, and believes by increasing access to education for women we can enable more communities across the globe to thrive and flourish.

Dr. Whitney Kilgore is Co-Founder and Chief Academic Officer of iDesign, a partner to universities who wish to build, grow, and support online and blended course and program offerings. iDesign provides concierge, white-glove instructional design support to faculty partners. Their designers bring expertise, service, and project structure to bear and ensuring that faculty feel comfortable, informed, and in control throughout the process of creating online learning experiences for their students. Dr. Kilgore has led the development of programs across the U.S., Spain, the Philippines, China, Australia, Latin America, and the U.K. As an academic, Dr. Kilgore has received recognition for her work, including a research award from UNT and inclusion in the Top 10 Research Articles (co-authored with Aras Bozkurt of Turkey and Matt Crosslin from UTA) for 2017 list produced by Dublin City University for their work on Bot-Teachers in Hybrid Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs): A Post-Humanist Experience. Whitney has been a part of the EdTech efficacy research project conducted in conjunction with Columbia University and the University of Virginia on EdTech Decision Making in Higher Education. She is currently working on research related to care theory in online learning and the impact to practice of humanizing online teaching and learning. She edited and published the book Humanizing Online Teaching and Learning and Connecting the Dots: Book: Improving Student Outcomes with Exceptional Instructional Design.

Beverly Araújo Dawson is a Professor in the School of Social Work at Adelphi University and Director of the Online MSW Program. She received her doctoral and master’s degree from the University of Michigan and a BA in Psychology from Hunter College. Her research focuses on social work pedagogy in online learning environments and the impact of discrimination on health disparities among LatinX . She is a skilled facilitator and trainer who has designed and delivered undergraduate and graduate courses in face-to-face and online modes.

Susan Adams is the Associate Director of Teaching & Learning, Achieving the Dream, Inc. In this role, Susan manages programs and projects designed to build institutional capacity to support intentional integration, professional development, and engagement of full-time and part-time faculty in fostering inclusive, student-focused college cultures. Susan produces dynamic thought leadership around instructional design and faculty engagement to both accelerate and sustain better student outcomes at ATD institutions nationwide. Susan earned an M.Ed in Student Affairs Administration from the Woodring College of Education, Western Washington University, and a B.A. in English Literature and Women Studies from the University of New Hampshire.

Erin Maney is the SUNY Online Communications & Community Engagement Manager. She was previously an Open SUNY Senior Instructional Designer, and prior to that came to the team from Monroe Community College where she served as an instructional designer.She has worked for community colleges and universities in Wisconsin and Florida before returning to upstate NY. Erin was formerly an English teacher for K-12 districts and continues to teach developmental writing courses and college orientation seminar as an adjunct instructor. After leaving the traditional classroom, she served in many roles supporting educators in K-12, at-risk youth facilities, technical and career high schools, community colleges, and universities. Much of her experience is focused on developing and facilitating training programs, finding new and engaging ways to communicate content, and developing meaningful learning opportunities for both faculty and students.

Dr. Larry Dugan is a SUNY Provost Fellow working on the SUNY Online project for the State University of New York. His primary responsibilities include the areas of enrollment management and student success.  As such, he leads a team of dedicated student support specialist who have the primarily responsibility of helping students navigate the sometimes complex world of higher ed enrollment and subsequent challenges our students face every day.  Prior to working at SUNY, Larry was the Director of Elearning at Monroe Community College, Director of Online Learning at Finger Lakes Community College and served as the chair of the Open SUNY advisory council for many years. He has served as President of Rochester Area College Continuing Education group as well as the board of the National University Technology Network.  Before his foray in to administration, Larry was a professor of computer science and business. Over the past few years, he has been an adjunct instructor at numerous SUNY institutions as well as private institutions across NY.

Mike Walker is the Support Services HelpDesk Manager for SUNY Online. As the HelpDesk Manager, Mike manages a customer service and technical helpdesk staff primarily responsible for online course support for more than half of the colleges that are part of the State University of New York. Dr. Michele Forte is the Manager of Student Supports for SUNY Online. Dr. Forte’s interests related to this position include holistic student supports and leveraging faculty expertise to inform student success as well as curricular and advising innovation in distance education. Cynthia Proctor is the Director of Communications and Academic Policy Development for the Office of the Provost at SUNY System Administration. She develops and supports the implementation of SUNY academic policy (applicable to all 64 campuses) designed to advance the priorities of the SUNY Trustees, Chancellor and Provost, positioning SUNY as a national exemplar. Ms. Proctor works closely with SUNY faculty and student governance on collaborative policy development that includes coordination of an open process to seek input from the SUNY community as a whole. Key policies include a framework for the awarding of SUNY micro-credentials—stackable awards that verify skills and competencies mastered. SUNY’s interest in micro-credentials is tied to its commitment to each student’s success. Central to the policy is a SUNY-specific definition for micro-credentials that requires review by faculty governance, learning outcomes, assessment, and institutional endorsement to assure the highest quality. Ms. Proctor holds a Master’s degree in Strategic Public Relations from George Washington University and a Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations/Journalism from Utica College.

Michael V. Daly is the Director of Operations for SUNY OER Services (SOS), a shared service organization working with SUNY campuses, faculty, and students to drive large-scale adoption of open educational resources (OER) as a strategy for increasing student success and empowering faculty’s pedagogy. In his role, he also facilitates the active participation and engagement with SUNY’s external partners in OER, including rpk GROUP, as campuses develop sustainability plans that reflect local values and cultures. Prior to joining SOS, he spent ten years as the instruction/public services librarian at Fulton-Montgomery Community College (SUNY), where he developed and lead a robust campus-wide OER program.

Dr. Chris Price is the Academic Programs Manager for the SUNY Center for Professional Development (CPD). At the CPD, Chris designs and implements professional development programs for faculty and staff both in and outside SUNY. Prior to his position the CPD, Chris was Director of the Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT) at The College at Brockport, State University of New York for 12 years. He started working at Brockport after receiving his PhD in Political Science from the University at Albany in 2004. Chris continues to teach online for Brockport as an instructor in the Master and Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies programs. Teaching and learning workshops he has conducted include discussion-based teaching, communicating effectively with students, collaborative learning, academic integrity, teaching with technology, course design and using critical reflection to improve teaching and learning. In 2013, Chris received the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Professional Service.

Danyelle O’Brien is the Director of Online Learning at Alfred State SUNY College of Technology. Mrs. O’Brien provides guidance and support to online offerings, teaching and learning, and professional development to the Alfred State campuses. She has been working in online education for over a decade with her most recent project being the Campus Lead for the partnership with SUNY Online Degrees at Scale. Mrs. O’Brien has worked on IITG projects related to micro-credentialing, PIF projects related to pathways for transfer and non-traditional student populations, and is currently on the leadership committee for a Federally granted Title III project with a focus toward student on-boarding, retention, and professional development. The team, lead by Mrs. O’Brien, was key to assisting faculty during the pivot to remote instruction due to COVID-19 and continues to promote and support web-enhanced courses.

Lisa Melohusky, Online Learning Coordinator, has been at SUNY Fredonia since 2007. In this role she provides campus wide support for the LMS, assists faculty in developing digital content for face-to-face and hybrid courses and designing and reviewing and online courses. Her educational background includes a BA in Secondary Education Mathematics and an MS in Educational Technology. Lisa was awarded the SUNY FACT2 Excellence in Instructional Support award in 2015 and was the 2018 recipient of the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Professional Service.

Jamie Frankenfield is the lead Student Success Coordinator for SUNY Online. She manages a team of coaches and coordinators who support online, adult students in the new program pathways. She brings her experience as an adult leaner to her role, which allows her to provide targeted, meaningful assistance to nontraditional students and the people who support and guide them. She also played an important role in the development of the SUNY Online COVID-19 resource website. Prior to her role at SUNY Online, Jamie served the SUNY community as a Help Desk analyst with Open SUNY, OER student outreach facilitator, transfer services mentor at the University at Albany, and a Writing Center tutor at the University at Albany while completing her graduate work, which allowed her to research workplace writing pedagogies and their relationship to adult learners entering or re-entering the classroom. In addition to raising children while completing her degrees, Jamie worked as a content writer, technical writer, editor, and eventually an SEO specialist, all critical experiences for her coordinator role at SUNY. Jamie is an advocate for the opportunities SUNY provides New York and its citizens, as it allowed her to start as a first generation, adult student at Hudson Valley Community College and finish with a master’s degree from the University at Albany.

Robert Piorkowski is the Assistant Director of Online Teaching for SUNY Online. He brings to the position a meaningful understanding of campus culture, online faculty development, instructional design, and online teaching. He is the principal designer of Open SUNY’s Instructional Designer Certificate Program adopted by OLC in 2016, for which he drew input from SUNY’s instructional designer community. Currently, he focuses on the implementation of online teaching supports, services, and resources for remote and online faculty & campus IDs, and the continuous improvement in online course quality via OSCQR. Rob was an adjunct instructor for Cayuga Community College, where he taught French online for 14 years.

Amanda Wickham is a SUNY Online. Success Coordinator. As a student advocate, Amanda is a critical thinker who is a constant “yes, and…” brainstormer. She studied Mathematics Education at the University of North Carolina Wilmington but found her passion in higher education when she served as a student leader. Since moving to New York in 2012, she’s served non-traditional students at Keuka College, Rochester Institute of Technology, and currently serves the hardworking adult learners within SUNY Online. While working full time in Higher Education, she completed her Masters Degree with Stony Brook University in Higher Education Administration in 2019. Outside of work, she is found spending time with her family hiking mountains or biking the Finger Lakes.
